Gypsum Park

The Regional “Parco dei Gessi” Gypsum Park is a protected area located south-west of the city of Bologna which spans the municipal territories of Bologna, Ozzano dell'Emilia, Pianoro and San Lazzaro di Savena.

The gypsum outcroppings and eroded gullies, rock formations dating back to prehistoric times, characteristic elements of a karst landscape, are riddled with over 100 caves. Among these, the most well-known are the Farneto and Spipola Caves, both of which are open to the public.

This fascinating park, in the foothills of Bologna, is an ideal destination for nature-loving hikers.
