Siena

Siena is located amidst the beautiful Chianti hills, in the heart of Tuscany, just south of Florence.
The medieval city center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the arena for a unique and amazing horse race: the Palio.

Siena’s Palio is famous throughout Italy and around the world. Each “contrada,” or neighborhood, enters a horse in the race after preparing for a full year for this event that takes place in the city’s famous Piazza del Campo on July 2 and August 16 of each year. The winning contrada parades through the streets, brandishing the “Palio,” the banner that constitutes the prize, and carries it back to their neighborhood for a festival that continues for days even after the race.

Siena is easily accessible from the Molino del Pero Golf Club in about an hour and a half. Take the A1 highway and exit at Firenze-Certosa. Then continue along the Florence-Siena highway.
